Faculty Development

CxC is deeply committed to supporting research-driven educational practices and initiatives. We offer several faculty development opportunities that seek to develop communication across the disciplines. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

CTCM 2530 Course Prep

We facilitate the course prep for faculty teaching a Critical Thinking and Communication course (CTCM 2530) for the General Education Curriculum. This course prep introduces faculty to the required components for all sections and helps faculty develop a written inquiry assignment that aligns with the general education program critical thinking student learning outcomes and their own subject interests.

Communication-enhanced
Teaching Academies

We coordinate with the Charlotte Core to offer Communication-enhanced Teaching Academies (CETA) Level 1 and Level 2.

CETA 1: Beyond the Paper works with faculty to integrate writing into their course design and teaching practices in any size course. Faculty who complete CETA Level 1 are invited to apply for the CETA Level 2.

CETA Level 2: Transform your Course works with faculty to scaffold communication skills across their course of any size. Faculty who complete CETA Level 2 earn a “Communication-enhanced Course” certification.

Workshops and Webinars

We deliver webinars on a variety of topics related to the teaching and learning of communication. You can find recordings of past webinars under Teaching and Learning Resources.

Departments and programs also can request a customized and interactive CxC workshop. Workshops address a specific topic or need, provide concrete teaching strategies and tools, and encourage conversation among participants. They are generally 1-2 hours and can be incorporated into retreats and meetings or held as independent events.
